SPRING SETTING DEVICE (SSD)

1. Raw material required/used.

    First as per IRS T-10, IS:2062/2011 Gd  E 250 Quality BR, Spring Steel, Different grades and types of steel and non-ferrous materials are used for the manufacture of SSD.

2. Technical procedure/ details.

Extended Central Portion of Tie Plate.

     Location of the last stretcher bar which is to be replaced by Spring Device is very close to the Tie Plate .Thus an additional spare Structure was not considered necessary for mounting of the SSD. A very strong and rigid base or the SSD box has been provided by extending the central portion of the said tie plate  accordingly. This arrangement was also considered to be helpful to leave the space for temping machines for packing the ballast under the sleeper without disturbing the fittings of SSD.                                                                                                         

 As this is a part and portion of the SSD ,a suitable modified tie plate will be supplied along with the SSD set accordingly.

3. Fortnightly:  

       Lubricating Oil (SAE 40) to be applied at Lever Holder Block Pin ,connecting rods,pin for spring nest (female & mail) & Lever mouth pin.                                                            

  Check for adjustments to ensure housing on one side and required clearance on the other side. This can be done by adjusting check nuts of the connecting rod.

4. Monthly:

        Lubrication oil (SAE 40) to be applied at Spring and Connecting rods thread .         

Spare Part:  Spring – This is not a weird item mouth it is advised to keep one piece extra for every 50 sets of SSD.

5.Purpose:                                                                                                                              Longer curved switch Thick –Web 60 kg on PSC Sleepers cause irregular setting in the area of the narrowest passage. To ensure a minimum clearance of 60+2,-3 mm between the tongue rail and stock rail at junction of heads with 160 mm throw at toe of switch in open position.  A spring supported setting device has been developed by the firm. The junction of spring setting device is to stabilize the tongue rails position is the critical area. On the one side. The open tongue rail is held of far enough away from the stock rail to ensure a sufficient wide enough passage and, on the other side, the closed tongue rail is pushed against the stock rail. Therefore, the spring supported setting device exhibits the image of increasingly safety while passing turnouts.

6. Function

      When the point is set for main line/ Turnout, the tongue rails are moved by the spring setting device fitted in place of the last following stretcher bar During the first help of tongue rail to setting movement, the spring is recompressed. The spring is loosened with second half of setting process completed and helps to move to tongue rail to their final positions. In the final position, the open tongue rail is bent away and the closed tongue rail is pushed against the stock rail.

7. Location

     The device gear is to be fitted in place of last following stretcher bars.

Manufacturing Process Plan for Spring Setting Device

Firstly, visual Inspection is done on all Raw Materials received.

          After that sawing and profile cutting are done on metallurgical passed materials. After cutting, marking & drilling are carried out through proper templates and Jigs &  fixtures. Some Components are inspected before assembling. Finally all the passed materials are assembled and tested on Track. All type of chemical and physical testing are done on plates, nut & bolt etc. And passed materials are assembled.           Manufacturing Mark
